[VIEW PROGRAM]

The Strasburg Heritage Society marks its 50th anniversary this year! We invite you to join the celebration at the Strasburg Heritage Fest, on October 7th and 8th. We present this free-admission event in appreciation of the wonderful community that we serve, in and around Strasburg. We extend the same welcome to anybody who has an interest in history, preservation, and restoration. Heritage Fest will be held in Strasburg at the Strasburg Heritage Society’s property at 122 South Decatur Street and across the street in the Fellowship Hall of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church.

Heritage Fest will have something for everyone, young and old. The events reflect the Society’s mission to preserve, restore, educate, and foster an appreciation for our rich historic and cultural inheritance.

Saturday October 8th, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM:

  • Around town: Learn about Strasburg by taking a narrated tour of the town in a horse-drawn carriage! Carriage ride tickets must be purchased.

  • The Shroy House: We will have an open house of the Society’s c.1793 “Shroy House” which is undergoing a meticulous restoration to its original condition.

  • In the Tent:

    • The morning will feature an “Old House Clinic” series of lectures focused on care of old houses. Experts will present on topics including Paint Aesthetics and Application, Repair of Wood Rot, Care and Repair of Historic Stone & Brickwork, and Preservation and Repair of Original Windows*. Afterward, meet the presenters in the church hall for one on one conversation. *tentative

    • Entertaining presentations on Strasburg history and culture will be offered in the afternoon, with topics including: Ladies’ Fashions of the Past, Strasburg’s Fountain in Center Square, Memories of Strasburg from 75 Years Ago, Strasburg’s Educator and Poet John L. Shroy, and possibly others.

  • In the Presbyterian Church hall:

    • See select items from the Strasburg Heritage Society’s collection.

    • Bring your own antiques & heirlooms for display, to help show what life in our town was like in days gone by.

    • Bring photographic prints, negatives, or slides of Strasburg to be digitally scanned at our photo scanning station, to help the Society expand the photographic record of Strasburg.

    • Share your own recollections of life in Strasburg at our oral history recording station.

  • For the children:

    • Kids can try their hands at crafts from 50 years ago (yes, the 1970s!)

  • And more! There will be music and several food trucks to help make your day enjoyable.
