Work day status update: On schedule as planned. The weather forecast looks good for a change! High of 83°F, partly cloudy.

This week’s priority jobs:

Here are some jobs for us to pick from:

1. Excavate along the outside of the barn east wall for inspection of the foundation (a priority for restoring the barn wall).

2. Clear sticks from the brush pile and gather them into one place. The idea is 1) to get ready to feed into a chipper to dispose of them and 2) to expose the underlying compost so that it can be removed. (a priority for reclaiming that part of the property)

3. Misc. pruning: bush next to the back porch of #124, bushes at property northeast corner, etc. (makes sense to do with #2, above).

4. Paint the base for a children’s play table that will be used at the Borough’s National Night Out on Aug 4.

5. Move bricks from the barn west side to the space at the northeast corner.

6. Repair the latch on the barn west door (if we have somebody with the skills).

7. Bury the Shroy House downspout extension pipes (If we have enough volunteers. The ground is workable due to rain).


Please bring tools that could be useful for these jobs.

Overview:
Come and pitch in to spruce up the Strasburg Heritage Society’s Shroy House, barn, and grounds, to make our place something that we can be proud of! We ask the volunteers to suggest projects and solutions, and to help us to prioritize the projects that we work on next. This is a great opportunity to meet people and learn from them. It’s a chance to feel the satisfaction of being part of a group that is accomplishing something worthwhile. We’ll put the old saying into practice: “Many hands make light work!”

We’ll be holding Volunteer Work Days on every 2nd and 4th Saturday running through September. We’ll work from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and you’re welcome to come for as much time as you can manage. We’ll provide drinks, but please bring your lunch if you plan to stay for a while. We’ll try to hold the event rain or shine, but will be flexible if conditions (rain, heat, etc.) are extreme. Check back here for up to the minute decisions.
